The ability of the human body to generate heat through muscular activity is a fundamental physiological mechanism. Exercise is often discussed in terms of strength, endurance, or cardiovascular conditioning, yet from a thermodynamic perspective its most immediate effect is heat production. Every contraction of skeletal muscle converts biochemical energy into mechanical work and heat. The relative proportions of these two outputs determine how efficiently muscular activity translates into retained body warmth.
