Andy, your WSJ article, “Our Champagne Socialists,” was the trigger for this essay. Your subtitle says that “Old, failed ideas” still appeal to “young, naive people,” and that is exactly the right concern. But I am afraid our focus on college and university campuses is misplaced on the axis of time — a long overshot. Your concern about champagne socialists is right, but by the time they arrive on campus, the ideological work is mostly done.
