Transparent Privacy
The Public Record of Private Rooms
From the essay
If a private event has public significance, what right does the public have to know what happened there? A private room is not automatically a private conversation. A ticketed or invited room of 300 people listening to a public commentator is not a family table, not a gathering of friends, not a diary, and not a confession. It is private in access, but public in significance. This is not an argument against real privacy. Real privacy must be protected. SIX says: you may not seize someone else’s room. Transparent Privacy says: you may not use the room to hide from the world.
