Fat embolism, resulting from the entry of marrow fat into the bloodstream following major bone fractures, represents a potentially fatal but often under-recognized complication. From the perspective of the emergency radiologist—frequently among the first to identify early signs of systemic involvement through imaging—there remains a significant gap in immediate, pre-diagnostic interventions capable of mitigating this risk. While much of trauma care is centered around surgical management and intensive care response, only one procedure—Immediate Immobilization—is both universally applicable and currently embedded in frontline trauma protocols.
