MQ: Toward a Moral Quotient
A Framework for Evaluating Moral Quality in Public Behavior and Personal Expression
From the essay
What was once a barrel of honey with a trace of tar has become a barrel of tar with a trace of honey—and the honey is drowned in it. Popularity is not moral authority. Virality is not civic worth. Engagement is not character. MQ, or Moral Quotient, is not intended as a measure of inner worth, private virtue, or ultimate goodness. It is not a score of the soul. It is a framework for seeing more clearly what kinds of public conduct are being normalized, rewarded, and allowed into our lives. Any serious attempt to implement it must be transparent, limited, contestable, and resistant to abuse.
