The Zero Sleep Project
Toward Accelerated Biological Refresh
From the essay
Sleep is conventionally treated as an indivisible biological requirement measured by duration and architecture. The Zero Sleep Project advances a different, engineering -oriented formulation: sleep is investigated as a coordinated transformation network that moves an individual from a documented presleep neural and molecular state to a documented post -sleep state through interacting electrical, neuromodulatory, synaptic, metabolic, vascular, endocrine, immune, and repair processes. The long - range objective is to determine whether these operations can be measured, causally controlled, accelerated, parallelized, or partially substituted so that biological refresh can be achieved in substantially less time than a conventional night of sleep.
