Overview
During my years working with Probabilistic Risk Assessment in nuclear safety and security, PRA was one of our essential tools—not only for evaluating risk, but also for identifying how complex, interconnected systems could be improved. It was exciting for me to transplant this methodology to the human body, a system vastly more complex than anything people have ever designed. In this paper, I look at the body not simply as a collection of organs and regulatory pathways, but as a distributed energy network in which intake, transport, storage, conversion, allocation, and use must remain coordinated. As an example, I looked at chronic fatigue as a low-coherence state involving interacting delays in energy delivery, response, and recovery. I published the paper some time ago, recently reread it—and liked it... I hope this framework may prove useful to those studying the integrated operation of the human body.
